The heat of summer is upon us, and I don’t know about you, but I want to wear less makeup. It’s no fun sweating off foundation or mascara, and sometimes it feels so heavy– so wintry– anyway. However, I still like to have some makeup on (plus, summer colors are so fun). Here are some makeup tips to help you through the heat of the summer.
Summer Makeup Tips: Lighten Up
This is the time of year to switch from your heavier, full-coverage foundations to tinted moisturizers or lighter formulations. Great choices include:
- Kevyn Aucoin’s Tinted Balm, which has an SPF of 20 and is also oil-free, and comes in colors ranging from fair to caramel
- Ellis Faas Skin Veil (in both bottle and pen, for on-the-go touchups) ranges from fair to dark and blends flawlessly with the skin
- Just need some spots covered? Try Veil Complexion Fix for Face and Eyes, a lightweight concealer that lets your skin shine through. It’s available in colors from Porcelain to Tan.
Summer Makeup Tips: Add Some Glow
Bronzer is in — not just for contouring, but for an overall glow. Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Veil comes in two colors so you can be sure that your bronzer is the right shade for your skin tone. Roxanne Rizzo’s Bronze Glow self-tanner is a cult favorite, good for both face and body (and nicely complemented by her powder bronzers). Julie Hewett’s Ora bronzers add a beautiful bronze glow, too. You’ll need the right brush — try Esum Face’s large X-57 brush, which is great for adding a little glow to face, shoulders and décolletage.
Summer Makeup Tips: Wear For the Long Run
Melting makeup isn’t cool — so make sure yours is melt resistent by choosing formulations that are long-wearing. Blinc mascara, which comes in volumizing and regular formula as well as in several colors, covers your lashes in tiny tubes instead of in pigments. If you sweat or cry, you don’t lose your color — but it comes off easily with warm water and a little pressure. I like the Amplify, which is more traditional in application (I like big, booming lashes!).
Don’t forget to make things easier on yourself too — combo products like LuMesh Lip/Cheek Stick allows you to add colors to your cheek and lips with one product (with a mirror!). It’s a lighter effect than blush, lipstick or even lip gloss and lasts and lasts.
