New Faces: Questions for Benoit and Francesca
MWS: Benoit, you’ve worked backstage with the best. Have you had any favorites over the years?
Benoit: Chanel looks always stand out to me. It might be a reference to something or a look that you wouldn’t wear out, but it’s always a strong story to embody the designer’s vision.
MWS: Francesca, can you tell us what sparked your initial interest in makeup?
Francesca: I became interested in the beauty industry when I was in grade school as I was fascinated with the power of makeup while watching my mother do her makeup every morning. She did some modeling when I was a kid and I have always just admired how the simple act of a woman applying her makeup made her feel empowered and great about herself.
MWS: Is there a makeup trend that you’re excited about?
Benoit: The trend I find the most exciting is the return of graphic liner for Spring/Summer 2018. It can be colored, or timeless black and there is always a shape to suit your eyes.
Francesca: I’m excited about colored mascara, particularly purple and eggplant shades. I use colored mascara on the tips of lashes to add more volume and make the eyes “pop.” I’m also loving the glittery eyelids and lips that have made a comeback on the runways. For the everyday woman, a bit of shimmer on the lids and even lips, make for a sexy fun and festive look. And I’m loving that glossy lips are back! The overly matte lip is a bit outdated, in my opinion. Glossy lips look well moisturized and healthy. You can go as natural or as bold as you like.
MWS: What’s a common mistake many women make with makeup?
Francesca: Thinking that they need to pile it on or overdo it. I always say start with less and gradually play up a feature that you love the most. And the biggest mistake of all is simply not removing your makeup at the end of the day. I educate clients of all ages about the importance of taking care of their skin. My motto is, makeup only looks as good as the skin underneath it!
Benoit: I’d say it’s probably wearing the wrong shade of foundation. To avoid this, get color matched every time you buy or replenish foundation. Only takes a minute and you’re sure to get home with the right shade. Your skin isn’t the same all year round, so neither should your foundation be.
MWS extends a warm welcome to Francesca and Benoit!
