Congratulations to the 2015 Tony Award Winners!
Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton
What a fantastic 2015 Tony Award show last night! From Kristen Chenowith to Alan Cumming, to all of the fantastic musical excerpts, to getting to see so many shows we work with honored for excellence — it’s always a great night and this year’s was no exception. Lots of big wins for The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-Time, The King and I, and Fun Home and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Tommy Tune!
Of course, we love the Best Musical, Best Actress and all of the other awards, but the tech awards– particularly Best Costumes– are our favorites. Here are the nominees and winners:
BEST COSTUME DESIGN OF A MUSICAL
Gregg Barnes, Something Rotten!
Bob Crowley, An American in Paris
William Ivey Long, On the Twentieth Century
Catherine Zuber, The King and I — WINNER
We loved Zuber’s modernization of the classic The King and I costumes (the “Shall We Dance?” ballgown, anyone?) with rich Thai details.
BEST COSTUME DESIGN OF A PLAY
Bob Crowley, The Audience
Jane Greenwood, You Can’t Take It with You
Christopher Oram, Wolf Hall: Parts One & Two — WINNER
David Zinn, Airline Highway
Wolf Hall‘s Tudor costumes, rich with detail befitting Thomas Cromwell, Anne Boleyn and, of course, Henry VIII, are dazzling — and short lived: Wolf Hall runs for only 15 weeks. If you miss the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production at the Winter Garden, you can always see the PBS version, also based on Hilary Mantel’s book.
