Our Top Tips for Using Fabric Paints

Preparation Stage

• Decide on a fabric. Some fabrics are easier to paint on than others (cotton, canvas, etc.). If you are a beginner, it can be a good idea to start with these.
• Wash your fabric. You should always wash your selected fabric before applying fabric paint. If using a delicate cosplay material, handwash your garment rather than machine wash it for optimal results.
• Protect the area underneath. Fabric paint is prone to soaking through the fabric so you need to ensure that your workspace is protected.
• Test a small piece of fabric first. To make sure you have the correct consistency of fabric paint, you should first test it on a small strip of the fabric.

Painting Stage

• Use fabric paint. Although you can use acrylics to paint some fabrics, in most cases, fabric paint is your best option.
