Broadway Costume Designers Honored at 2014 Tony Awards
Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton

The musicals and plays we see would be nothing without the Broadway Costume Designers behind them. The Tonys were last night, and there were some fantastic plays and musicals nominated for Best Costume Design. Everything from feathered showgirls in Bullets over Broadway to 1920s Harlem in After Midnight; from transvestites in 1960s Catskills in Casa Valentina to 1920s Bronx in Act One, this year’s nominees are a diverse, impressive crowd.
The Broadway costume designers who won the coveted award, Jenny Tiramani for Twelfth Night and Linda Cho for A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder were definite standouts, with Twelfth Night’s traditional Elizabethan ruffs and tights and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder Victorian whimsy.
