Beauty Blenders: Flawless Foundation Application
Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton

There are as many ways to apply foundation as there are foundations themselves: fingers, sponges, flat brushes, airbrushes, fluffy brushes, puffs — every makeup artist seems to have his or her own technique. One of the most popular tools for foundation application as of late? The Beauty Blender.
A Beauty Blender is a fine-textured synthetic sponge. It’s even more finely textured than the traditional wedges, giving it a velvety texture that is perfect for creating a flawless finish for foundation, blush, self-tanner or other liquid-based products. It’s shaped like a small egg, so when you use it, you can use the broad side for wider application, like cheeks or foreheads, or flip it for a surface perfectly suited for the crease of the nose or the edge of the eye.
Beauty Blenders are great for several uses: applying moisturizer or primer for even coverage that doesn’t saturate the skin, creating the perfect canvas for makeup; for applying cream or liquid foundation to the face or body; applying a natural flush of color with blush; as well as contouring. It’s a switch-hitter in your kit. It can be used wet or dry, and can both smooth on product as well as stipple.
For clients who may be more sensitive, Beauty Blender’s classic pink egg has been joined by Beauty Blender Pure, which, like the classic, is latex-free, but is also dye-free. For pro kits, try the black Beauty Blender Pro, which is stain-proof, and best for applying self tanners and bronzers.
To clean the Beauty Blender (which should be done between uses — this is a reusable product that can last many months!), try the Beauty Blender Cleanser. It’s available in two forms: one, a hands-free pump, and the other a solid form that’s activated with water. Both have a pleasant (and not overpowering) lavender scent, and really thoroughly clean your Beauty Blender. The cleaner is also great to use to clean your brushes, so you don’t have to have multiple cleansers in your kit. To store, you can toss a couple of their air.ports in your kit: they allow the sponge to dry freely and keeps them from getting dirty. They are available for the classic and pro, and a black one for the Pro version.
