Emmy Awards 2016
Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton
Held this past Sunday, the 2016 Emmy Awards honored television’s best. It was an exciting evening hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and attended by a bevy celebrated artists. And it affirmed that the Golden Age of television shows no sign of slowing down.
Certainly, it was a huge night for Game of Thrones (12 awards total), Veep (3 Awards) and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (5 awards). Of course, we at MWS would like to highlight our favorite categories: Costume Design, Hair and Makeup.
Emmy Awards 2016: Best Costume Design
OUTSTANDING COSTUMES FOR A CONTEMPORARY SERIES, LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Winner: Lou Eyrich for American Horror Story: Hotel
This is Lou Eyrich’s sixth nomination overall and her third consecutive win for the American Horror Story series. It’s understandable why; the costumes she created this season, especially for Lady Gaga’s character, were absolutely stunning. It was a well-deserved win in a competitive category that included nominees from Empire, Grace and Frankie, The Good Wife and Transparent.
OUTSTANDING COSTUMES FOR A PERIOD/FANTASY SERIES, LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Winner: Michele Clapton for Game of Thrones.
This was costume designer Michele Clapton’s sixth nomination for her work on the show and her third win. The other nominees were designers from Downton Abbey, Outlander, Roots and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
OUTSTANDING COSTUMES FOR A VARIETY, NONFICTION OR REALITY PROGRAM
Winner: Paul Tazewell for The Wiz Live!
This has been a great year for costume designer Paul Tazewell. Not only did he take home the Tony for his work on Hamilton earlier this year, he just won his first Emmy! Also nominated were designers from Dancing with the Stars, Grease: Live, RuPaul’s Drag Race and Saturday Night Live.
Emmy Awards 2016: Best Hairstyling
HAIRSTYLING FOR A LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Winner: Chris Clark for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
This was Chris Clark’s first win and second nomination. He certainly nailed the look he created for Marcia Clark (which was briefly a focal point of the series). Also nominated were stylists for All The Way, American Horror Story: Hotel, Fargo and Roots.
HAIRSTYLING FOR A SINGLE-CAMERA SERIES
Winner: Nic Collins for Downton Abbey
This was Collins’ second consecutive win for Downton Abbey. The other shows nominated were Game Of Thrones, The Knick, Masters Of Sex and Penny Dreadful.
HAIRSTYLING FOR A MULTI-CAMERA SERIES OR SPECIAL

This veteran just won her 4th Emmy in a row! Rodgers has earned an impressive nine nominations overall and has won a total of six times. The other worthy contenders were from Dancing With The Stars, Grease: Live, Key & Peele and The Wiz Live!
Emmy Awards 2016: Best makeup

Walker was nominated twice this year and took home both Emmys (see below), an incredible feat. Makeup artists for The Knick, Penny Dreadful, Vikings and Vinyl rounded out the competition.
PROSTHETIC MAKEUP FOR A SERIES, LIMITED SERIES, MOVIE OR SPECIAL
Winner: Jane Walker for Game Of Thrones
This was a very strong category with makeup artists from All The Way, American Horror Story: Hotel, Penny Dreadful and The Walking Dead also nominated.

Mekash has been nominated an astounding 26 times; this was her 4th win. Makeup artists for All The Way, Fargo, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Roots were also in contention.
