Fashion Fix Friday: Topstick to the Rescue
Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton
Topstick is a miracle. It was originally made for toupees and hairpieces, but costume designers and wardrobe stylists have repurposed it for nearly anything. Keep some in your purse and it can be your ultimate Fashion Fix.
Topstick is a great tool– here are a few tips for you on using Topstick:
Fallen Hems
If you’re wearing fast fashion, unfortunately hems can fall. Heck, it can happen on high end designer stuff, too. A small piece of Topstick will keep your hem from falling. It’s also great if you are adjusting a pair of pants to work with both heels and flats.
Gaping Blouses
As a woman who is a little well-endowed in the bust, I often deal with gaps in my blouses, but it can also happen to those who have less up top as well just because of how manufacturers place buttons. Just use a little piece of Topstick in between your buttons, and you’ll have a smooth look (and not expose your bra) all day. I also use it when I rent dresses from Rent the Runway — you can’t alter the dresses, but Topstick won’t harm most fabrics and sometimes you just need a slightly shorter hem.
Keep Covered
J.Lo kept her famous Versace gown in place with Topstick, I’m sure of it. This is great for some of the deep, plunging necklines — or I’ve even used it to secure low backs to accommodate bras. It will keep you from exposing more than you’d like — whether that’s a bra strap or more– and keep you confident all day (and night!).
Keep Jewelry In Place
Do you ever have that necklace that always moves around? It drives me crazy when I have a necklace that constantly spins or twists. Use a little Topstick to keep your jewelry in place. It’s clear, so no one will notice (promise!). It’s great for big pendants that twist, too.
Secure Scarves & Ties
Have you ever struggled to perfectly arrange a scarf and then have it fall apart the first time you bend over? It happens to me all the time. I like to use a piece of Topstick to strategically keep the scarf in place. I always look put together, and nothing falls apart! This is great for ties as well (though you should really use a tie bar– they’re back in style, you know!).
