How to Care for Leather Clothing: Stain Removal

You will invariably get something on your leather clothing (or maybe I’m just clumsy!).  To avoid damaging the leather, be sure to be prepared with the right cleaner! For small spots, try Lexol Leather Cleaner.  Just a little bit will pull out that stain between professional cleanings.

How to Care for Leather Clothing: Storage

It’s pretty easy to store leather clothing.  First, use wide wooden hangers for tops and jackets, and skirts or pants folded over a hanger with some tissue paper in between the layers to minimize folds (never use clip hangers, unless they’ve been padded; they’ll indent the leather).  Never cover leather with plastic; instead use something breathable like Grip-Tite Canvas Garment Bags, which will let leather or suede breathe.

For deeper cleaning, ALWAYS get your leather professionally cleaned. Between the delicate nature of leather, linings, and other issues, you won’t want your leather clothing to be cleaned by anyone but a pro.

How to Care for Leather Clothing: Polishing

My new leather top needs a bit of polishing (that’s what you get for buying second hand, I suppose).  I use Tarrago leather polish — just a bit– and then buff to a shine.  Don’t use too much (the leather in clothing is a bit different than that of shoes) and you’ll get a good result.
