Leftover hangers? Here’s How They Can Help Others

Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton

Your production has wrapped.  Either principal photography is finished, or your Broadway show has closed, or your series has ended.  You know what you have?  A ton of leftover hangers. What do you do with them? You can give them to another production, of course.  Whatever you do: don’t throw them away.  They can be a huge help to people in need.

Leftover Hangers Can Help Others by Manhattan Wardrobe Supply

All too often we simply discard boxes of plastic hangers at wrap or throw away the hangers from stores that don’t work on our racks. We have a better suggestion. Now just one phone call will have them picked up and given new life helping homeless victims of HIV/AIDS.

Founded in 1990, Housing Works is the nation’s largest community-based AIDS service organization. In addition to housing, food programs and medical care, Housing Works also provides legal services and assists their clients navigating Medicaid other social service bureaucracies. All of these services are provided free of charge to our homeless neighbors. A diagnosis of HIV/AIDS can still lead to homelessness, and Housing Works is trying to help.

Housing Works is a model for other service agencies. The stores are staffed primarily by volunteers, and the paid staff sacrifices to help their clients every day.

We know we are in tough economic times, and you may not be able to donate money as you had in the past. Instead, you have the opportunity to help by simply recycling items you might otherwise toss out. Living with HIV/AIDS provides great challenges to all those with the disease; add homelessness and dire poverty and every little thoughtful bit can help keep despair from setting in. This organization replaces replaces despair with a warm bed, nutritious meals and the tools to create a sustainable life.
