Madam Secretary Costumes
Author: Cheryl Kilbourne-Kimpton
There are so many great female-focused shows this season. We’ve already talked about Once Upon a Time and How to Get Away with Murder, now we’ll cover the great costumes from Madam Secretary.
Tea Leoni plays Elizabeth McCord, who is called in to be the Secretary of State after the previous Secretary dies in a plane crash. Her costumes reflect McCord’s transition from academic on a horse farm to the politics of the West Wing. So in opening scenes, you have McCord in clothes suitable to a farmer, which progress into the crisp, preppy-yet-practical clothes the rest of the show. She’s the “everywoman”, balancing motherhood with running international relations for the most powerful country in the world.
No biggie.
Madam Secretary Costumes: Keeping It Clean
Unlike former Secretaries of State Condoleeza Rice and Hilary Clinton, McCord has kids in the home, so they’ll make her a bit messier. Plus, she has a horse farm! That’s a lot of dirt. We hope McCord carries some Tech Quik Wipes, which can be carried in her purse or stored in her limo and will remove stains in a snap.
Madam Secretary Costumes: Easy Wrinkle Remover
If you’re on and off planes all day, your clothes will wrinkle. Sometimes, you don’t have time to even steam! Try some Grandma’s Secret Wrinkle Remover Spray, which just involves spraying and running your hand over the fabric. You’ll look a lot more put together in a lot less time.
Madam Secretary Costumes: Travel Made Easy
One of the worst things about traveling is losing your jewelry — when you’re in several cities in just a few days, it’s easy to do. McCord should definitely store her sentimental necklace (which her husband also has!) and her fantastic statement pieces in a jewelry travel case. It’ll keep jewelry from being damaged, plus she always knows where everything is. Bonus? It’ll easily fit in her carry-on.
